A work of art in your home
Kelims are flat, hand-woven carpets created by nomads in western Persia. They use a special weaving technique that gives the carpet a thinner, flatter, pile-free surface. Kelims are also produced faster compared to ordinary oriental carpets. The colors are natural and each rug is unique.
Kelim are produced in various regions and under many names, but the most famous types of kelim are Seneh, Sumac, Fars and Kelim Gashghai.
Kelims are distinguished not only by their unique structure, but also by the richness of patterns and colors. The use of natural dyes gives each carpet a unique look and shade, which adds additional charm and value. The designs often reflect the culture, traditions and everyday lives of the nomads who create them, allowing each kelim to tell its own story.
The kelim weaving technique involves interweaving warp and weft threads, which gives the effect of a flat, smooth surface. The lack of pile makes these rugs more versatile and easier to keep clean, making them an ideal choice for both traditional and modern interiors. Kelims can be used not only as floor carpets, but also as wall decorations, bedspreads or even tablecloths, adding a unique character to each room.
The variety of patterns and colors in kelims is the result of the rich weaving tradition of various regions of Persia. For example, Seneh kelims are known for their fine, densely woven patterns, while Sumac kelims feature more geometric motifs. Kelima Fars and Gashghai, in turn, often depict plant and animal motifs, which are a reflection of the nature surrounding their creators.
Owning a kelim is not only a matter of aesthetics, but also an expression of appreciation for the traditional crafts and culture of the nomads of Western Persia. Each kelim is a unique work of art that brings warmth, history and the unique charm of hand-weaving to the interior.
How to care for a wool rug?
Keep your carpet clean by regularly removing dust and dirt. Vacuum it gently, always in the direction of the bristles, avoiding the use of chemicals.
We recommend systematic maintenance by vacuuming and beating the carpet. Avoid getting it wet, especially when washing the floor.
Protect your rug from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent uneven color fading. Carpet colors may fade over time, but they should do so evenly.
Keep an eye out for fringes and edges, which may wear out but can be repaired if necessary.
If the carpet is placed on a slippery floor, we recommend using an anti-slip pad that can be cut to size.
Rotate your carpet every six months to prevent uneven wear. For additional protection, place soft pads, such as felt, under the legs of heavy furniture placed on the carpet.
